Hey all!!

Hope everything is going well with you. This weekend I'll be away from the computer...don't worry I will return by Monday if not sooner. Unfortunately a close friends mother has passed and we will be paying our respect. This is another bump in the road you get to when parents start to leave this earth. Well you know if you've ever lost someone its not easy...but it is time to reflect and celebrate the good and LET GO....hold love forever and use its strength to go after your dreams...life is to short not to live!!!!

On to living...Running for City Council..my dream I'm making my reality!!!

As I promised 5 more commissions and boards...I know there are more committees out there...
* Finance Board...............monthly
* Charter Review..............look for this on Nov. ballot
* Investment Advisory Board...quarterly
* Public works Commission.....monthly
* Planning Commission.........2x monthly

of course I've added these to my calender

Sooo...I've made my way towards the final step in becoming a bonified candidate for city council of HB...My appointment Aug 4th to turn in my nomination papers and as soon as the signatures are verified..I'll be in the official race for city council HB

How about that!! I was told by some this is impossible but I believe.........

Hello...

K.. real quick The Maddy Act is not all inclusive of boards and commissions within our city..I'll get back to that later in the week.

Went to visit the Mobile Home Advisory Board meeting last night...What I learned: There are 18 mobile home parks in our city. One of which is owned by the city. They had a guest speaker at the meeting CERT representative,his name was Brevyn(not sure if I got the spelling right)that was talking about CERT(community emergency response teams)GREAT OPPORTUNITY to get involved 714-374-1565 if you love animals ask about SCART. The conversation seemed to surround a pressing issue for our mobile home communities...SB 23...and compliance by Sept 30,2010 is required. Now the problem, there isn't a plan yet to confirm compliance with the new law. The new law has to do with an emergency preparedness plan for the park. Our state appears to have communication issues addressing the implementation of some laws.

Wow...I wish our residents luck in our mobile home communities.
***Please remember we had a deal of partnership...If you or anyone you know lives in a mobile home community in California pass the info on make sure their park is compliant with SB 23.

NOW!...my issue *FACEBOOK* do I or don't I???????

As much as I love everyone that has touched my life in the past 40 years, and as thankful as I am of each and every person and experience good,bad or ugly...hahaha

I don't want to be involved in cyber world that much..understanding that if I plan to run a decent campaign with out any funding...*remember that is my goal*...the cyber world is my avenue. Any Ideas?

Now, on to more exciting stuff The Maddy Act...What I learned is that it is a listing/description of boards and commissions within HB...14 listed right now. There are soooo many opportunities for residents to use their areas of expertise to better our city!! Exciting right... Hey whether it be your career choice or passion there is a place for you...

http://www.surfcity-hb.org/Government/boards_commissions/notice_of_vacancies.cfm.

So ? You may ask yourself... Now, what am I going to do with this information?

Well, This is the plan...I have calendered all the meetings... over the weeks ahead to visit each and every one possible and tell you about my experience...and you pass on information to friends and family that may have an interest or ability that would help improve/retain our quality of life here in HB. Sound like a deal...partnership is more like it!

Hello....

Just a quick update as I will be working on my blog set up and design,over the weekend. The next "step"!...

testing out the poll feature amongst other things,links to websites and blogs.

My goal is to not only educate myself but inform the voters to the best of my abilities. I believe we all need to make an extra effort to ensure we are making informed decisions these days.

Did you miss me?

Good Morning !

I am so excited. I had a great time on Tuesday, remember that was the big day, I met with our city clerk to go over the process for becoming an actual candidate for city council. At that time each potential candidate is given their nomination papers. It is required you attain 20 confirmed signatures of registered voters within HB, in order to be officially nominated.

We went over forms about ballot designation, your title by your name on the ballot...easy! mom,playground supervisor...did I mention you are only allowed 3 words.

Also, in the packet is the form to fill in if you wish to have a ballot statement...tricky part of this is it costs: ready? ... 1500$ check must be included, one thing you may write a personal check for.

Understandably so a lot of what was discussed was financially related....
Fundraising, gifts, financial holdings and interests.

Forming what is known as a committee... to oversee campaign raising and spending of funds.

LIGHTBULB!... What if I don't raise any money...truly be a free agent of the people,residents, the voters? A challenge, Oh Yes! Some great ideas are floating around in my head about how to do this...look for the poll...let me know what you think!

Don't forget pass this on... Sign up to be a follower!!

On to my next delema, I noticed this 4th of July as I am enjoying our wonderful festivities...my arm has flaps! AHHHHHH where did these come from? I have to begin a workout...How can I wave to all the wonderful people with flappy arms?... next year when I am in the parade as a city council member...Oh that'll be so fun!!

On a more serious note...spent time looking up duties of a city council member on the HB website,lots of interesting information regarding our home there. Check it out!

Okay.....

I've decided I believe I could be a great asset to the residents of Huntington Beach as a member of our city council.

That's what I've gotten myself into...
the race for one of 4 seats available in this Novembers election.

Each step is an accomplishment in itself...my journey has begun!

Don't miss a step

Hey!
Yesterday, I left us with a very compelling question...What have I gotten myself into???

Today...still trying to answer that same question!?...

I know I've gotten myself into the HB Independent newspaper, which I have to clarify I have lived in HB since the age of 3 months not 3 years as reported, otherwise I had a nice chat with Michael M.

That was early on... I think the day after filing my intent to run. Now, I should have been more prepared and the city clerk,Joan, did tell me it,interviews, could happen soon...But in my head August 6 was the day I was looking at...the last day of the official filing period to run for city council.

I know I've gotten myself into The Local News, unfortunately, I do not receive that subscription so I'm unsure how many times. Spoken with Dave G. a few times and found as we spoke I was thinking out loud on some issues, I did not have a well thought out answer...they hadn't been my issues within our lovely city.

A few more questionnaires came my way...
Again, some questions I had never thought about...
So this is what I said...

Thank you for showing an interest in me. At this time I have filed my intent to run for city council. As you know the official filing period is between July 12th and August 6th at which time I expect to become a candidate for City Council of Huntington Beach. I am diligently using my time to prepare for my anticipated council race. It would be a disservice to the residents of Huntington Beach for me to answer some of the questions when I do not possess all the necessary facts. I do not want to misrepresent myself to my constituents. I will take every questionnaire into serious consideration and have an answer to your questions by August 6th.

Yes, I have answered some questions and will continue to do so as I feel confident that I have given the issue/question thorough consideration.

At that point,
I asked myself...
How many of us in HB are aware of all the issues?? How many neighborhood groups<> are working hard to secure their quality of life in our wonderful city??How can we weave the web back together and work to support each other in achieving what we all want which is the highest level of happiness and quality of life for ourselves and loved ones??and finally... Do I think I can help??

...Yes!!

Good Morning...

It is day 2 of the official filing period, and for the next few weeks the potential candidates will be meeting with the city clerk to pull their nomination papers. My appointment is on July 20th. I am looking forward to the two hour meeting, each step is part of the learning process to really understand our city council. Remember..."put one step in front of the other..."

Soooo... let me recap for you what has happened so far:

Last summer someone had the not so brilliant idea that downtown did not need a community library,but we needed a huge preforming arts center. That upset me, I volunteered at that library when I was 12...spent a lot of time there reading and checking out books,Encyclopedia Brown books were some of my favorite. Thankfully HBDRA was there!

Fast forward to March 2010... I decided to file my intent to run for city council.

Since filing my intent, I have been contacted by different groups within our community... HBDRA, R4RD,HBT,Lincoln Club. A couple journalists... Dave G. and Michael M. I tell ya, the most memorable experience to date was at a town hall meeting when another potential candidate came up to introduce himself and the first thing out of his mouth was..Hi, I'm so and so and I'm running against you...I responded there are 4 seats available how do you know we are running against each other instead of with each other.

... What have I gotten myself into???

Andrissa ;)
